Hdmi Converter Not Working

Hdmi converter not working. Displayport to hdmi adapter does not work i know that computer dp out to monitor hdmi in should work but when i plug the displayport into pc and the hdmi into my monitor i get no signal. Displayport to hdmi adapter does not work jump to solution i just bought a displayport to hdmi adapter i tried to connect it to my dell monitor but it started turning on and off and making wierd sounds the screen is still black. There seem to be people trying to sell hdmi to vga cables on the internet because they are slightly cheaper than an hdmi to vga adapter. Depending on the tv this may be done with either an rca or 3 5mm aux audio connection. Although hdmi can pass both video and audio signals dvi connections can only pass video signals.
